AWARENESS of health and financial literacy is an important and indispensable part of modern family education.

In view of this, the Malaysian Financial Planning Association (FPAM), Penang Chapter, in collaboration with the Air Itam service centre of assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang, will organise a community outreach event titled “Air Itam Family Carnival 2026: Health & Wealth Begin at Home” on April 25 (Saturday) from 8am to 1pm  at SJK(C) Kong Min Pusat, Air Itam.

Ng said the family-oriented carnival encourages participation from primary school pupils and families, including parents and children. It is expected to attract many families and provide an engaging, interactive experience.

The organisers stated that the carnival is guided by the concept of “education begins at home”, integrating two key elements — health and financial literacy. Through fun and interactive activities, parents and children will be encouraged to build healthy values together.

“Activities will include health talks, basic health screening and vision tests, traditional parent-child games, as well as children’s financial literacy workshops and hands-on activities,” Ng said.

He added that, in particular, the “Little Financial Manager Workshop” (ages 7–12) will use gamified learning methods to help children understand money, make choices, and develop responsibility for financial decisions, laying a foundation for the future. It’s limited to 100 children only, and pre-registration is required.

The event has received support from various parties, including coordination assistance from Air Itam Women and Family Development Committee (JPWK Air Itam) as well as participation from professionals across different sectors.

On the healthcare side, the event is supported by Gleneagles Hospital Penang, which will provide on-site health sharing sessions and basic screening services.

At the education and community level, the event is supported by school board members, school principals and teachers, as well as public school communities who have contributed actively to ensuring the smooth organisation of the programme.

FPAM Penang Chapter chairman Jason Fong Chung Theang emphasised that financial literacy and health awareness should not only be learned in adulthood, but should begin at home from an early age.

By nurturing children early, the programme aims to help them develop sound values and decision-making abilities as they grow.
