Another milestone for PDL

THE Penang Digital Library (PDL) which created a buzz in town with the first e-reading experience for Penangites attained another milestone with the launch of its second phase, PDL 2.0.

The groundbreaking ceremony of PDL phase two was held on March 16 at Jalan Masjid Negeri (beside PDL Phase One).

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who officiated the groundbreaking ceremony, expressed his excitement towards the project which would provide a conducive reading environment, a tranquil atmosphere surrounded by lush greenery.

“Penang Digital Library which opened two years ago embarked on a new milestone with its expansion.

“This shows that 4P (public, private, people, professional) partnership works in Penang.

“PDL serves as one of the core elements in promoting STEM learning,” said Lim in his speech.

Lim also stressed on the importance of mastering English with regards to technology.

“When we talk about Industry 4.0, everything revolves around artificial intelligence especially machine learning.

“Being tech-savvy certainly needs mastery in the English language as everything involving technology requires English.

Learn soft skills and at the same time learn English,” added Lim.

Also present were state exco members, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Yew Tung Seang and several state assemblymembers.

PDL phase 2 is expected to be completed by December.
