ARMENIAN PARK is quietly transforming into a sea of pink as colourful Mid-Autumn Festival decorations begin taking shape, promising to bring a warm and enchanting glow to the heart of George Town.
With workers busy putting the finishing touches to the festive displays, the park is gradually taking on a distinctly festive character ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar when the moon is traditionally at its fullest and brightest.
The predominantly pink decorations already adorning Armenian Park add a warm and romantic touch to the surroundings, offering visitors an inviting backdrop for photographs and festive gatherings.
Village Community Management Council (MPKK) Kampung Kolam chairman Quah Peng Eow said this year’s decorations carry the theme ‘Mid-Autumn in Nanyang’, with the overall design drawing inspiration from the rich cultural heritage and distinctive aesthetic of the Nanyang region.
He said the decorations are expected to be fully completed before a lighting-up ceremony is held on Sept 6, to be officiated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
“Following the lighting-up ceremony, the decorations will remain on display for one month, welcoming members of the public to visit, take photographs and capture the festive moments with their family and friends,” he said.
Quah added that the celebrations would culminate in a Mid-Autumn Festival carnival at Armenian Park on Sept 19, giving members of the public an opportunity to come together and enjoy the festive spirit.
“With the decorations, lighting-up ceremony and carnival, we hope to create a lively and memorable Mid-Autumn celebration for the community and visitors,” he said.
