THE Knights of Rizal (KOR) Malaysia Chapter has presented a cheque for RM10,000 to Penang STEM as sponsorship to recognise the 25 most outstanding students under the Technical Skill Learning (TSL) pilot programme for upper secondary students.
The cheque presentation took place during a gala dinner held to commemorate the chapter’s second Investiture Ceremony at OWWA Kuala Lumpur, with the support of the Philippine Embassy recently.
Conducted by Penang STEM in partnership with the Penang Education Department and Department of Skills Development (JPK), the two-year TSL programme began in 2025 for Form Four students and will continue through 2026 when they are in Form Five. Participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement from JPK upon completion of the programme.
About 260 students from 12 participating schools are expected to receive their TSL completion certificates when Penang STEM holds the TSL Certification and Appreciation Ceremony on Sept 26 at the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC).
Meanwhile, Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Maria Angela Ponce expressed her appreciation to the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia executive chairperson Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Faiz Abdullah for gracing the occasion.
The Order of the Knights of Rizal is an international civic, patriotic and cultural organisation dedicated to honouring the life, ideals and legacy of Dr José P. Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines.
Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was conferred the Knight Grand Cross of Rizal (KGCR) by the Knights of Rizal in 1997 in recognition of his contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between Malaysia and the Philippines.
Ambassador Ponce commended Chapter Commander Sir Dr Chiam Tzeh Yew, KCR for his accomplishment in founding and strengthening the Chapter. She also congratulated the new members – Datuk Sir Wira Captain Tan Tiang Huat, Datuk Sir Ong Soon Ho, Datuk Sir Liang Tian Kiat, and Sir Dr Goh Chee Seong – and urged them to uphold the ideals of Dr Jose Rizal through meaningful service to others.
The Investiture Ceremony was presided over by Sir Dr Emmanuel Calairo, Supreme Commander of the International Headquarters of the Knights of Rizal, assisted by former Asia Regional Commander Sir Pieter Nootenboom, and Chapter Commander Sir Dr Chiam Tzeh Yew.
