Association hopes to promote unity

THE Malaysian Dravidian Association (MDA) Penang branch has prepared a list of programmes to be held next year.

 

The branch chairman Annamalai Dhachanamorthy said the programmes include charity programmes, festivals, and education programmes, which would benefit the Indian community.

 

“We hope to promote unity among the Indian community in Penang through the programmes,” he told Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow during a courtesy visit on him at his office in Komtar today.

 

Annamalai said the association hoped to receive continuous support from the state government.

 

Chow said that the state government is always supportive of any association or organisation that could bring good benefit to the society.

 

Annamalai was accompanied by state MDA vice-chairman Gunalan Sengalaney, secretary Maruthamutho Soneh, assistant secretary Rajendran Perumal, treasurer Muniandy Shanmugam, and MDA women’s chief Yogeswari Raman.

 

Other delegates include MDA women’s secretary Amutheswari Raju, MDA youth chief Viknesh Babu Baskaran, and MDA committee members Raveendran Kalimuthu, Parameswari Ponusamy and Kalidasan Raman and its auditors Lechumanan Dakshinamurthy and Murugammal Tankamuthu.

 

Also present was Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy.

 

Established in 1946, MDA has more than 200 branches nationwide with a total of 20,000 members.

 

MDA has 13 branches in Penang with 5,000 members.
