BRITON Roger Cowdrey, who writes under the pen name August Moon, will launch his seventh book in the Malaysian Squirrel series, titled The Sun Bear Mission of the Malaysia Squirrel, in Penang.

The launch, hosted by Precious Pages in collaboration with the acclaimed author, will take place on March 14 from 2pm to 4pm at 19B Codrington Avenue, Penang. This marks the fourth book in the series published by Precious Pages.

Cowdrey’s books aim to encourage children to read while raising awareness about the impact of humans on the animal kingdom. He has spoken to hundreds of schoolchildren and will be visiting the Vision School in Sandakan, as well as three schools in Penang and one in Kuala Lumpur.

Three of his previous books have been selected by the Children’s Library of the Malaysian Islamic Art Museum and the National Library for Children and Young Adults (NLCY), South Korea, as part of the top 30 Malaysian books for exchange in 2024 and 2025.

“All the books deal with helping animals under threat. This latest book highlights the dangers facing Sun Bears and Orangutans in Sabah. Some of the events in the story took place in the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre and its surroundings,” Cowdrey, an international business consultant, said in a press statement.

He dedicated the book to the wonderful people working in Sabah working at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre and the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sabah, as well as to the Penang schoolchildren whose idea inspired the mission.

Cowdrey’s previous titles include The Secret Mission of the Malaysian Squirrel, The National Park Mission of the Malaysian Squirrel, The Penang Sea Mission of the Malaysian Squirrel, The Mission of the Malaysian Squirrel to Stop the Taman Negara Feud, The Malaysian Squirrel Mission with Shireburn the Eagle, and The Malaysian Squirrel’s First Book of Short Stories.

As part of the launch, Precious Pages will organise fun activities for children aged 7–12, including storytime and a colouring contest with prizes. A registration fee of RM10 per child applies.
