‘Beacon of Hope Trishaw Ride’ promotes heritage awareness among children

IN celebration of the George Town Festival 2023 tomorrow, an inspiring event called the ‘Beacon of Hope Trishaw Ride’ was held in the heritage enclave this morning.

The event, which attracted a total of 300 children aged between three and six, was designed to promote heritage awareness among them.

 

Caretaker state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said he was glad that the young children were given a chance to experience the greatest living heritage.

“It is more than just a simple ride; it is an opportunity for our children to connect with the essence of our culture.

 

“Through this experience, the children would develop a sense of appreciation and respect for the heritage that have shaped our society.

 

 

“Let us celebrate our heritage and honour our trishaw riders, creating memories that will be cherished for a lifetime,” he said before flagging off the event in front of the City Hall in Esplanade today.

 

 

Yeoh expressed his hopes that a deep love for the heritage in the state could be instilled in the young ones.

 

“We are sowing the seeds of appreciation and understanding that will blossom into a lifelong love for our living heritage,” he added.

 

During the event, Yeoh also took the opportunity to enjoy a ride within the heritage area, further demonstrating his support for the event.

 

The Learning Kingdom Education chief executive officer Dr Lee Eng Wah said the ride served as an educational activity and helped instil respect for the trishaw riders.

 

 

“This event provides our students with a unique opportunity to connect with their roots, appreciate the significance of heritage, and actively contribute to its preservation,” he said.

Dr Lee also thanked the Crime Consciousness and Public Safety Society (CCPSS) for their unwavering support in making the event a success.

 

 

Among those present were CCPSS chairman Datuk Mohamad Anil Shah, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, former Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, and former Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi.
