MORE than 5,000 participants are expected to join the annual Global Education Day (GED 2019) for the third consecutive year by SEGi College Penang.

 

The two-day event will be held on Dec 14 and 15 this year.

 

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the event is aimed at promoting the usage of technology to learn, experience and interact.

 

“GED 2019 serves as a platform for young talents to showcase their talent and passion in technology innovation, in line with the Penang Digital Transformation Plan.

“It also provides higher education opportunities by SEGi’s global university partners,” Soon told a press conference at SEGi College in George Town today.

 

Also present were SEGi College Penang principal Cheah Teong Keat and Hotayi Malaysia managing director Goh Guek Eng.

 

Cheah said that this year’s event would feature the Robolympics Competition, E-Sports Experience and an Exhibition Zone which the public could enjoy.

 

“Robolympics is a competition that encourages participants to showcase their engineering and innovation capabilities to build robots with unique designs, operability and mobility.

“There are two categories – Robo Fighting Competition and RC Robo Sumo.

 

“Popular online game tournaments such as League of Legends, Mobile Legends, Super Smash Bros and King of Glory will be featured in the E-Sports Experience.

 

“Apart from that, one of the main sponsors, Hotayi Electronic will provide the latest virtual reality experience to the public while college partners, sponsors and industry partners will be showcasing their products and services in the Exhibition Zone,” he said.

 

Cheah added that registered participants would be entitled to take part in the lucky draw with prizes worth up to RM160,000.

“This includes Acer Ironman Swift 3 Laptop, Nintendo Switch Lite, PlayStation 4 and many more,” he said.

 

GED 2019 will be held from 10am to 10pm at 1st Avenue Mall.
