SCOUTS in Penang are looking forward to the setting up of a new campsite near Taman Negara in Teluk Bahang.

Penang Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the proposal to set up the campsite was mooted by Penang Scouts Association (PSA) commissioner Zulkifli Kamaruddin.

“The existing campsite at the Scouts Association in Jalan Masjid Negeri is in dire need of upgrading. Hence, the proposal to set up a new campsite near the Taman Negara was an effort to seek a better campsite.

“This new location can be the venue for scouting activities including the annual jamboree.

“It can also be the ideal location for Scouts to have their gatherings,” Soon said at the site today.

He added that the 15,000 registered Scouts in the state would benefit from the project.

“The planning permission for the project has been submitted to the relevant authorities for approval,” he said.

The proposed campsite will encompass about 56% of a 15-acre land near Taman Negara.
