Cathay Pacific resumes flights between Penang and Hong Kong

GOOD news for travellers as Cathay Pacific announced its flight resumption between Penang and Hong Kong after a suspension in 2019 due to the sharp decline in passengers caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow was present at the Penang International Airport earlier to welcome passengers’ onboard flight CX633 as they arrived from Hong Kong at 12.05pm.

Upon arrival, the passengers received goodie bags from Chow and his entourage, courtesy of Cathay Pacific.

Starting today, Cathay Pacific will operate flights CX634 and CX633 between Penang and Hong Kong on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays on the Airbus A330-300.

The resumption of scheduled services will provide Penang travellers with direct access to Hong Kong, in addition to onward connections to popular destinations, such as New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toronto, Paris and Amsterdam.

“We look forward to the resumption. It is good to note that travellers can once again travel on direct flights between Hong Kong and Penang after the suspension in 2019.

“This is an exciting phase, and we thank Cathay Pacific for coming back to Penang,” Chow said when addressing the reporters at the Penang International Airport earlier.

Also present during the visit earlier were state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang Global Tourism chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan and Cathay Pacific regional general manager (Southeast Asia and Southwest Pacific) Dominic Perret.
