PAKATAN Harapan chairman Chow Kon Yeow takes the pole position in the race for the Batu Kawan parliamentary seat with 50,744 votes!

Chow defeated his rivals Lee Ah Leong (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), Tan Lee Huat (Barisan Nasional), Wong Chia Zhen (Perikatan Nasional) and Ong Chin Wen (Warisan) with a 40,400 majority.

Wong came in second with 10,344 votes, while Tan obtained 7,145 votes. Ong and Lee only managed to grab 450 and 148 votes respectively.

Chow thanked the voters, supporters, the Harapan team and three state assemblymen – Prof Dr P. Ramasamy (Perai), Gooi Hsiao-Leung (Bukit Tengah), and Goh Choon Aik (Bukit Tambun) – for helping him and Harapan to win Batu Kawan.

“While we managed to win Batu Kawan, Pakatan Harapan in Penang is not able to be happy.

“We failed to achieve our target of winning 11 parliamentary seats in Penang.

“We understand that we have lost Kepala Batas, Tasek Gelugor, and Permatang Pauh.

“Our Pakatan Harapan leader Nurul Izzah Anwar did not manage to defend her Permatang Pauh seat. We are sad and disappointed that we could not retain the seat.

“Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional also failed to secure any parliamentary seat in Penang,” he told a crowd at a hotel in Bukit Tengah, past midnight today.

Penang Pakatan Harapan leaders, supporters and media personnel gathered there to follow the results of the 15th General Election (GE15).

Chow added that the coalition would follow the GE15 results closely.

“At press time, we are still waiting for the official results for some of the parliamentary seats,” he said.
