“A total of 444,185 people in Penang have registered themselves to receive the Covid-19 vaccine as of March 21.

“And 28,316 people have received the first dose of the vaccine in Penang. A total of 328 people in Penang have taken the second dose as of March 21,” Chow said.

Chow said over 31,000 people in Penang were eligible to receive the vaccine under Phase One of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

“This means that there are about 3,000 people (under Phase One) left who are waiting to receive the first dose of the vaccine,” he said.

Chow said the active Covid-19 clusters in Penang were the Juru Immigration detention centre, and the industry and manufacturing cluster.

“We hope that the Health Ministry will conduct risk assessment on the current situation in Penang.

“We have reiterated many times urging the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) to implement and enforce the Safe@Work guidelines on the factories in the state.

“We hope the Federal Government can consider the request to vaccinate the factory workers first, considering that there are active Covid-19 cases in the manufacturing and industry sectors in Penang,” he said.
