Companies need to embrace DTAP to move forward

WITH the Industry 4.0 transformation and the digital economic growth that are taking place vastly across the globe, the state government had stepped forward in preparing Penang to adapt to the changes.

“The state government continues to encourage companies to engage in the 4.0 transformation and the digital economic growth. Recently (October 31) Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad launched the National Policy on Industry 4.0 which is indeed a timely reminder to the industry players to improve in terms of production technology.

“Four days ago I officiated the Penang SME Connextion Seminar organised by investPenang where the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) presented on Digital Transformation Acceleration Programme (DTAP). This is a new joint initiative between MDEC and Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) to provide support and incentives targeted to Malaysian companies focused on manufacturing and logistics.

“The state encourages local large companies and SMEs in Penang to take the opportunity to accelerate on your digital transformation through initiatives such as DTAP.

“We are confident that Penang will remain a thriving growth hub for many years to come which is in line with the Penang 2030 aspirations which is aimed at making a model for the nation as well as the world,” said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow who attended the 30th anniversary of Kamen Steels Industry at the St. Giles Wembley Hotel today.

Chow shared some of the benefits that this programme (DTAP) could offer such as the Digital Transformation Labs (DTL) which would provide a structured approach including consultancy and expertise in developing and executing the digital transformation pilot.

“Deloitte, Bosch, Digital McKinsey, Roland Berger are among MDEC’s DTL partners. Apart from that, there is also the DTAP Pilot Grant- outcome based matching grant (1:1) to cater for expenditures incurred for DTAP approved activities,” added Chow.

Also present were CEO of Kamen Steel Industries Sdn Bhd Datuk Fan Kam Meng and the Deputy CEO Datin Catherine Low.

Kamen Steel Industries which is a Penang grown manufacturer is headquartered at the Bukit Minyak Industrial Park.
