Cosmetic manufacturer ramps up sanitiser production

INNOVATION is the key factor to maintaining the revenue growth of a company during the economic uncertainties.

Realising that, Sky Resources Sdn Bhd has shifted its focus from cosmetic manufacturing to hand sanitisers to meet the demands of one of the most bought items during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Its executive director William Tan told visiting Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow that the company has increased its hand sanitiser production to more than 300,000 units per month.

Chow visited the company in Bukit Minyak today together with Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud, Batu Kawan MP Kasthuriraani Patto, Bukit Tengah assemblyman Gooi Hsiao Leung, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik and Chow’s political secretary Teh Lai Heng, who is also the Komtar assemblyman.

Present to welcome them besides William were Sky Resources chief executive officer H.K. Tan and Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Penang chairman Datuk Dr Ooi Eng Hock.

According to William, the demand for the hand sanitisers has increased even before the Federal Government enforced the movement control order (MCO) on March 18.

“Actually, apart from the cosmetic products, we have started to produce hand sanitisers a few years ago but only on a small scale.

“So, when we see the demand has spiked and there was a shortage of supply, that is the time when we decided to focus on producing more hand sanitisers for the consumers.

“Currently, we are producing between 10,000 and 15,000 units of hand sanitiser products daily.

“And we sell them at a very affordable price, so that everyone can buy them,” he added.

William said the company’s focus was not only on the production output but also on the research and development (R&D) area in order to produce an effective hand sanitiser to eradicate the germs and bacteria.

“So far, we produce two types of hand sanitiser – the alcohol-based hand sanitiser and non-alcohol based. Both have received certification from the Health Ministry,” he added.

Chow commended such efforts taken by Sky Resources to produce more hand sanitisers during this challenging period.

He also thanked William for the tour of the R&D laboratories, operation centre and the production areas, before a briefing on the company’s operation and future plans.

Established in 1991, Sky Resources currently has four plants in Penang with more than 350 employees.
