GLOBAL leader in LED lighting for industrial applications, Dialight Penang Sdn Bhd, has officially launched its new 57,000 sqft manufacturing facility, further cementing Penang’s status as a leading global hub for electrical and electronics manufacturing.

Since establishing operations in Malaysia in 2012, Dialight has invested RM29 million in the country, covering infrastructure and research and development, and producing two distinct product lines for the global export market.

The company’s expansion underscores its long-term commitment to Penang and the growing demand for innovative LED lighting solutions.

Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, who officiated the launch, said the investment aligns with the state’s strong manufacturing momentum.

“In 2024, Penang recorded RM17.3 billion in approved manufacturing investments, with the majority channelled into E&E-related projects.

“In the first quarter of 2025 alone, Penang attracted RM6.7 billion, 79% of which was in the E&E sector.

“We are confident we will surpass last year’s performance.,” Jagdeep said in his speech during the official opening ceremony of the facility in Perai on Aug 12.

He also highlighted that Penang now contributes around 8% of the world’s back-end semiconductor output, further solidifying its position as the “Silicon Valley of Asia.”

“These achievements, along with our world-class manufacturing capabilities, are why innovative companies such as Dialight choose to expand here.

“Their ongoing commitment is a testament to Penang’s resilience, stability, and attractiveness as an investment destination,” he said.

Dialight chief executive officer Steve Blair said the decision to expand in Penang was driven by its strategic importance and the state’s stable business environment.

“We invest where we can see returns. Why focus on places where we are not as welcomed when we can come here?

“Penang is a very important investment hub. Stability is critical in our business, and this facility is part of our risk mitigation strategy,” Blair said.

The new plant, which employs over 100 staff with room for further growth, will serve as a major production and distribution hub for the APAC and EMEA regions.

Dialight’s LED lighting products cater to industrial facilities, hazardous locations, infrastructure, commercial spaces, and opto-electronics markets worldwide.

Jagdeep also commended Dialight’s role in supporting sustainable, next-generation illumination.

“LED technology is a key enabler of cost-effective, energy-efficient lighting, from appliances to major building retrofits.

“This expansion ensures Penang continues to play a vital role in delivering such technologies to the world,” he said.
