THE ‘Malaysia Day NFT Art Competition’ is offering attractive cash prizes worth up to RM10,000 for its participants!

With the theme ‘Wonders of Malaysia’, the competition is organised by Digital Penang in partnership with the local non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace, Pentas.io.

The contest is open to all Malaysians from today until Aug 20.

Digital Penang, a government-linked company owned by the Penang government, has begun operations in April 2020 to accelerate efforts to capture opportunities in the digital economy and promote a digitally engaged society.

Digital Penang chief executive officer Tony Yeoh said the competition is held in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration, culminating with the World Congress on Information Technology 2022 (WCIT2022) and Penang Techfest in September.

“As part of our vision to drive the digital ecosystem and encourage the entrepreneurial spirit, we aim to bring awareness and education, and give the communities an experience on digital art through NFTs.

“This is in line with our mission to strengthen the digital ecosystem for Penang, and we hope through our strategic partnerships with Pentas.io, we can create a sustainable ecosystem in the creative and digital art industries.

“Through this contest, participants can mint their NFT in various art forms ranging from graphic designs, animations, photographs, videos, to music and thus, showcasing the beautiful wonders of Malaysia!

“For details, visit Digital Penang’s official website at https://digitalpenang.my/a-digital-revolution-2022/#conference ,” said Yeoh during a press conference in Komtar today.

Also present were Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and state Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari.

According to Yeoh, selected NFT artworks from the competition would be showcased at an exclusive four-day NFT Art Exhibition from Sept 14 to 17 at the Setia SPICE Arena and Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas.

“The exhibition will see more than 50 digital assets from local NFT projects and NFT owners in a physical setting that will be open to the public as well,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chow said NFTs are becoming increasingly popular among designers and artists.

“According to Forbes Advisor, an NFT is a digital asset that represents real-world objects like art, music, in-game items and videos. They are bought and sold online, frequently with cryptocurrencies.

“An NFT consists of digital data that is stored in a blockchain.

“New technologies may seem confusing at first but with dedicated efforts and resources, we can help educate the masses to be prepared and to help propel the state forward.

“The state government will always welcome new ideas and initiatives.

“After all, we must be educated in new technologies for Penang to be an advanced technological state.

“We believe that the Malaysia Day NFT Art Competition, themed ‘Wonders of Malaysia’, is suitable as we want to encourage Malaysians to share from their lenses the beauty of our country in the form of digital assets through this NFT art competition,” he said.
