THE 10th annual Penang International Science Fair (PISF) 2022, which aims to spark interest and inspire innovations in science and technology among the students in Penang and the northern region, will take place from Dec 3 to 10.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said he was happy to see the resumption of the fair after it was cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic before being held virtually for the first time last year.

“As for this year, the Penang Science Cluster (PSC) will introduce a new format for PISF 2022, whereby it will be done in a hybrid manner that incorporates both virtual and physical activities.

“These include a travelling science fair, virtual company tours, industry workshops, workshops by MakerLab schools, and career talks.

“The programmes implemented by PSC and companies leading to the fair are aimed at creating the pipeline of future talent to support our industry and economy.

“Penang is the economic powerhouse of the country and is evident with its trade and investment performances,” he said in a press conference on the sidelines of the State Legislative Assembly today.

Chow pointed out Penang has continued to attract various multinational corporations to set up their operations here.

“Talent development and economic growth go hand in hand,” he said.

Chow expressed his gratitude to PSC for its commitment towards PISF 2022, adding that the parents and children are encouraged to participate in the fair to find out the importance of science and technology.

Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, who is the PSC board chairman, said he looked forward to the significant event and hoped more students can be exposed to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The fair will take place in a few venues, namely Butterworth Arena (Dec 3 & 4), Arus Academy (Dec 7-9), Penang Skills Development Centre (Dec 10), SMK Permai Indah, SMJK Sacred Heart and ViTrox Makerspace (various dates from Dec 3 to Dec 10).

It will be held from 9am to 4pm in all venues.

Admission is free.

Also present at the press conference were PSC director Datuk Yoon Chon Leong, PSC chief executive officer Datuk Ooi Peng Ee and Motorola Solutions Malaysia Penang Operations and Country Manager vice-president and managing director Solomon Lorthu.
