PENANGITES are urged to care for the environment and Mother Earth, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow stressed the importance of nature and called on everyone to play his or her part for the environment.

“There is only one earth for us and we need to work hand-in-hand to preserve our Mother Earth.

“Hence, every one of us has a role to play, but we need to understand that it is not easy to change someone’s habit.

“Hence, a special thanks to Macalister Village Community Management Council (MPKK), Penang Green Council (PGC) and other green partners for organising this event to create awareness among the community,” he said in his speech during the Penang Earth Day event at 1st Avenue Mall in George Town today.

Chow welcomed such an initiative to inculcate the awareness of caring for the environment.

“For instance, we should use water wisely. Water-saving devices and regulations can help us to achieve our aim,” he said.

Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, who was also present, lauded the initiative.

“We need to protect our environment in line with the Earth Day initiative.

“We need to let the younger generation understand the importance of Mother Earth,” he said.

During the event, Chow also presented a RM15,000 cheque to Macalister MPKK.
