Fellowship Night highlights NGO’s commitment to cooperation

NEW members accepted into the Majlis Dato’ Dato’ Negeri Pulau Pinang, together with the existing members foster understanding with the state administration during the Fellowship Night 2023 this evening.

 

The dinner, hosted by the council, also provided an opportunity for members to enhance their mutual friendship.

 

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present at the event, said the Majlis Dato’ Dato’ Negeri Pulau Pinang is one of the leading non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the state.

 

“You have frequently organised programmes and social welfare activities, such as charity walks, blood donation programmes and others, that benefit the public.

 

“The Penang government hopes that this spirit of cooperation will continue to blossom for the social development of our state.

 

“We highly value the roles and contributions of NGOs as essential agents aiding the government in addressing issues affecting the community,” he said in his speech at Evergreen Laurel Hotel Penang.

 

Chow complimented the Majlis Dato’ Dato’ Negeri Pulau Pinang president Dato’ Seri Dr Abdul Rafique Abdul Karim and the organisation’s management council for hosting the event.

He also congratulated the new members accepted into the organisation.

 

In closing, Chow reminded those present to continue to be exemplary leaders and respected citizens.

 

“It is our duty to uphold good behaviour and manners irrespective of background or rank.

 

“Let respect and kindness guide us in what we do,” he said.

“We will continue to work with the state government to make Penang a greater and greener place for all,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rafique also introduced the state assemblymen and leaders in the state administration during his speech.

 

In his speech, he also urged the members to touch people’s lives through community service.

 

“Please play an active role in the community and give back to society,” he said.

 

Dr Abdul Rafique also announced an RM10,000 contribution by Majlis Dato’ Dato’ Negeri Pulau Pinang to Tabung Bencana TYT Negeri Pulau Pinang.

The oldest member Tan Sri Yussof Latiff, 93, was honoured by the organisation at the event.

 

The attendees joined in celebrating Chow’s birthday, along with others born in the month of November.

Majlis Dato’ Dato’ Negeri Pulau Pinang has about 1,100 members now.

 

Also present were Chow’s wife Tan Lean Kee, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid and his wife Datin Noraini Abdul Jalil, Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo and his wife Belinda Bhar, Penang Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu, state Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim, state Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari and Penang State Secretary Datuk Rosli Isa and Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk A.
