ABOUT 200 families in Kampung Manis, Perai, are now in a dilemma after receiving eviction notice from Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) yesterday.

Three-time Perai assemblyman Prof Dr P. Ramasamy said the residents have been asked to leave in six months’ time.

Ramasamy, who is the state Deputy Chief Minister II, expressed hopes that RAC would offer appropriate compensation or alternative housing units to all the affected families.

He said it does not matter whether the housing units are low-cost or affordable ones but at least they serve as a shelter for them.

“Many of them are poor and have to make their ends meet.

“Many of them have been staying here for a few generations.

“I hope that a proper meeting can take place between the two parties to discuss the matter further.

“After all, I’m alright with any development to take place in my constituency but the people’s interests must always be upheld.

“In fact, I would be happy if all of them are compensated accordingly,” he told a press conference in Kampung Manis today.
