THE Penang government is calling for all Penangites to show their spirit of patriotism by flying the Jalur Gemilang in view of the National Month in August.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said Jalur Gemilang is a national symbol of love for the country.

Chow said Jalur Gemilang is a national symbol of love for the country.

“And through the love for the country, I believe we can maintain a harmonious life of mutual respect and unity among the people regardless of race, religion and background.

“By flying the Jalur Gemilang, it can awaken the spirit of patriotism in us.

“After all, the spirit of patriotism should always be embedded in our hearts as Malaysians.

“Thus, I hope Penangites will respond to the call to fly the flag in their residences and on their vehicles with pride.

“Let us all do this together for the love of our country, accompanied by hopes and prayers that our beloved state and country will continue to prosper and flourish,” Chow said in his speech before launching the state-level National Month celebration and ‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang’ campaign at Straits Quay today.

Among the attendees present today were State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, and Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy.

Others included state executive councillors, state assemblymen, Members of Parliament and various department chiefs.

Chow added that various activities and programmes would be organised by state agencies during the National Month.

During the same event, Chow also distributed Jalur Gemilang to various department chiefs.

Chow later flagged off the Merdeka convoy consisting of police, personnel from the state Information Department, and other agencies. All of them flew the Jalur Gemilang from their respective vehicles and also distributed mini Jalur Gemilang to the public in the area.
