FROM yacht cruising across sparkling waters to playing on the world’s first floating pickleball court, Forest Island is fast emerging as one of Penang’s most exciting and unconventional tourism destinations.
Located near Jerejak Island, the journey itself is part of the adventure. Guests depart from Pasar Nelayan Seri Jerejak aboard an exclusive yacht, setting the tone for a day filled with discovery and indulgence.
As the yacht glides through the sea, visitors are treated to breathtaking views of iconic landmarks such as the Penang Second Bridge, while enjoying onboard luxuries including a sea jacuzzi. It’s a seamless blend of sightseeing and relaxation before arriving at the island paradise.
Once on Forest Island, the experience unfolds into a vibrant playground of activities.
Visitors can soak in the charm of a Santorini-themed corner, belt out their favourite tunes with karaoke at sea, paddle through calm waters on kayaks, or savour freshly caught seafood.
The island also incorporates eco-education elements, ensuring that fun goes hand-in-hand with environmental awareness.
Forest Island founder Alvin Poh Hsien Yang shared that Forest Island was born from a bold ambition which is to create something truly different for Penang.
“We didn’t want to build just another attraction. We wanted something people would remember, talk about, and most importantly, return to.
“We always ask ourselves one question: what can we build that Penang has never seen before, and something that the world can recognise?
“That question led to Forest Island. Forest Island is not just a place; it is an experience. We brought together the beauty of the open sea.
“The energy of lifestyle and social activities, and a space where everyone can gather, connect, and enjoy. Our goal is simple which is to create a place where people feel happy, free, and proud to be here,” Poh said during a media familiarisation trip yesterday (April 7).
Also present were Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, Bagan Jermal assemblyman Chee Yeeh Keen, Penang Global Tourism (PGT) chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan and Malaysian Association of Hotel (MAH) Penang chapter chairman Datuk Tony Goh.
According to Poh, among Forest Island’s standout achievements is Asia’s first permanent open-sea pickleball court, officially recognised by Asia Records.

“This achievement belongs to Penang and all Penangites. We want this to be a project by the people, for the people, something they can be proud of and grow together with us,” Poh said.

Looking ahead, he emphasised that Forest Island is only at the beginning of its journey, with plans to introduce new attractions, strengthen partnerships, and continuously elevate the visitor experience.
Meanwhile, Wong highlighted that in March 2026, Forest Island’s operator, Forest Eco Adventure Sdn Bhd, received official licensing from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), affirming that the destination meets national tourism standards.
“This ensures visitors can enjoy the island safely and confidently, knowing it is fully regulated and professionally managed,” he said.
He also underscored the importance of thoughtful tourism development in Penang.
“As a coastal state, we are blessed with natural beauty and unique heritage. But space is limited, so every new attraction must add real value.
“Forest Island does exactly that. It introduces a fresh, innovative tourism product that blends nature, creativity, and interactive experiences in a way rarely seen in Penang,” he said.
Designed to be inclusive and accessible, Wong said Forest Island caters to a wide audience from families and young adventurers to nature lovers and international tourists seeking something out of the ordinary.
“It is designed to allow people to connect with nature while enjoying modern attractions that are fun and memorable.
“Families can spend quality time together. Young people can find adventures to share. Nature enthusiasts can reconnect with the outdoors. And international visitors will discover a side of Penang that they cannot experience anywhere else,” he said.
Wong also mentioned that the Penang government will continue to support tourism projects that are well-planned, regulated, and capable of creating long-term value.
“After all, we aim to build a tourism ecosystem that is diverse, inclusive, and ready to meet the expectations of modern travellers,” he concluded.
