Ewe Hock, who won a string of titles, including the Malaysian Open from 1996 to 2001, presented a cheque for RM15,000 to the Ancom Nylex team for their victory.

Butterworth BC Gosen, the inaugural champions, received RM10,000 as the runners-up.

“I saw a lot of enthusiasm shown by the participants, spectators and sponsors during the tournament. This is a good tournament for both the men and women. I hope this will be an annual tournament in Penang to inspire both the young and old players,” said Ewe Hock, a Penangite himself.

In the mixed team final, Roslin, who had participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, paired with Azizan Mohd Ariffin to give Ancom a 1-0 lead by beating the pair of Armynul Sabri and Tan Kok Lean with a score of 21-15, 21-18.
