STUDENTS below aged 15 are encouraged to register for the sports introduction clinics which would be held next month.

Penang Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said his committee in collaboration with Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) would be organising a few series of sports introduction clinics for pupils and students in May.

“We are focussing on three sports – wushu, badminton and athletics – under the Sports for All programme in May.

“The wushu sports introduction clinic will be held at Sia Boey Archaeological Park on May 22; while the badminton sports introduction clinic will be held at Dewan Badminton Kompleks Sukan Titi Mukim on May 23.

“The athletics sports introduction clinic will be held at Stadium Kompleks Sukan Bertam on May 29,” he told a press conference at the MSNPP building today.

Soon said the participants would be exposed to basic skills when they take part in the sports clinic.

“The objective of the sports clinic is to help sow interest in children. We want to motivate them to take up sports.

“We will provide the necessary sports equipment.

“The participants have to wear proper sports attire,” he said.

Registration is free.

“However, we can only receive a limited number of participants in view of the current standard operating procedure (SOP).

“The wushu and athletics sports introduction clinics can accept up to 100 participants while the badminton sports introduction clinic can take in up to 80 participants.

“Therefore, we encourage those interested to register early. Those who register and attend the sports introduction clinics will be given a Sports for All T-shirt and a certificate of participation.

“They can register via the QR code on the promotional posters, or fill in the Google Forms that are on the MSNPP’s website and Facebook page.

“The Google Forms are also on the Sports for All website and Facebook page,” he said.

Soon said two badminton sports clinics were earlier held on April 11 and 18, at the Dewan Badminton Kompleks Sukan Titi Mukim and Dewan Badminton Bagan Jermal respectively.

“Both sports clinics received very positive response from the public,” he said.

Soon added that the MSNPP was now in discussion with the Penang Badminton Association to hold a Sports for All Open badminton competition for players aged 12 to 15 in June.

“Details of the competition will be revealed soon.
