Full support needed for KRTs to foster closer community ties

THE public should give their full support to the Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) in their areas, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow said KRTs could act as an agent of unity to bring together various communities in the country.

“So, we should play our part by supporting the community programmes organised by them.

“Many KRT activities are meant to promote interaction and strengthen the spirit of unity.

“Community activities provide opportunities for residents to gather and have fun. They can strengthen the bonding among the people.

“After all, we live in a country with people from various backgrounds, religions and cultures.

“It is our shared responsibility to give strong support to our local KRTs to ensure there is interaction and a sense of community in the place that we are living,” Chow said in his speech at the Deepavali Open House organised by the KRT Taman Bukit Minyak today.

Also present were Bukit Tengah assemblyman Gooi Hsiao-Leung, KRT Taman Bukit Minyak chairman Mathialagan Krishnan and Chow’s wife Tan Lean Kee.

Chow also urged the KRTs in the state to report issues or difficulties that they are facing to their state assemblymen.

“This is important so that the assemblymen can get in touch with relevant departments and agencies to solve the problems that occurred in the community,” he added.
