THE state government, through the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), is committed to continuing the development and empowerment of the youth holistically through many dimensions, including e-sports.

PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling said nowadays the world is changing and developing at such a rapid speed.

“This development has brought e-sports, which was once a small-scale activity, into a whole new level as a growing multibillion-dollar industry and an opportunity for the youth to showcase their sportsmanship and teamwork abilities.

“In Asia and Southeast Asia, we can already see the rise of e-sports as new young stars emerge and compete to be the best.

“Realising all of this, PYDC has taken the initiative to collaborate and support partners to create more programmes to support the e-sports field within the youth such as this programme today.

“PYDC also has organised a number of e-sports and game-related programmes with our collaborative partners.

“We believe that through collaboration, we can share our capacities to be able to create more programmes that can benefit the youth,” Dr Gwee said in her speech before officiating the Ucreation King’s Pro League 2022 (UCKPL 2022) Grand Final Esports Tournament at Vangohh Eminent Hotel in Machang Bubuk today.

Also present were UCreation chief executive officer Maggie Khoo Yu Wei and UCKPL president Andy Sheah Wei Hen.

The e-sports tournament is jointly organised by PYDC and UCreation.

Dr Gwee also thanked UCreation for the wonderful event and for having PYDC as a supporting and collaborating partner.

“At the same time, I would like to congratulate the finalists for being able to reach this stage.

“You are all very amazing and I do hope this achievement of yours will be a starting point for you to continue pursuing the e-sports industry. You will be an inspiration to many more out there.

“I would like to congratulate the organising committee for their hard work in making this event a success. We look forward to more e-sports collaboration with UCreation in the future,” she added.
