‘Fuyoh! Once Upon a Time’ bazaar to highlight environmental matters

THE Penang Green Council (PGC) is set to educate the public on environmental issues via the bazaar called ‘Fuyoh! Once Upon a Time’ next month.

The event, which is also co-organised by Grow Community Market, will be held at the Hin Bus Depot on June 4 from 10 am to 6 pm.

The bazaar aims to bring back the visitors to the way of living in the past, namely the ’50s, an era when plastics did not exist.

According to Machang Bubuk assemblyman Lee Khai Loon, who is also the director of PGC, the bazaar is held in conjunction with the ‘World Environment Day’ which will be observed on June 5.

“‘Fuyoh! Once Upon a Time’ will be a friendly way for us to engage public interest, especially towards environmental issues.

“This will be a platform for local communities, businesses and organisations to introduce and promote sustainable living and practices,” Lee said during a press conference today at the Hin Bus Depot.

Lee believes that education is one of the keys to human behavioural change

Lee said the ‘Fuyoh!’ comprises three main elements which are the past, present, and the future.

“Let us go back to the past with ‘Fuyoh!’ where we conserve the good olden days with minimum trash and wastage without single-use plastic.

“The event will also highlight and acknowledge the present as it is the most important generation.

“The Earth shows us environmental signals like global warming and pollution, which means now is the most crucial decade for us to make a change.

“As for the future, it depends on how we treat our world now.

“We strongly believe that embracing the future with resiliency is the key to a better environment. That is why we should act now,” he said.

Lee also said since the state government introduced the “No Plastic Bag” policy in 2009, it has helped to reduce at least 33 million plastic bags.

“We believe that education is one of the keys to human behavioural change. This comes with the positive results achieved over 10 years of implementing policies and education campaigns.

“And it aligns with Penang2030 vision to build ‘A Family Focused, Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’.

“We hope that everyone can be a part of our initiative. So, we are looking forward to seeing you all on June 4 here at the Hin Bus Depot.

“Spread this around and do not forget to bring your family and friends along to enjoy a meaningful day with us,” he said.

“I also like to take this opportunity to thank our co-organiser Grow Community Market, venue sponsor Hin Bus Depot, sponsors – Berjaya Land Development Sdn Bhd, Tambun Indah Land Bhd, Lam Ah Group of Companies, Sunway Property, ADA Biotech Sdn Bhd and upcycling artist Co2.
