Hari Buletin a roaring success

IT was truly a memorable and proud day for Siah Choon Hwa and Ooi Ling Ling after their three daughters emerged as the winners in both the poster drawing and colouring competitions held on Hari Buletin at Taman Tangling, Simpang Ampat yesterday (March 18).

The three siblings – Siah Pei Xuen, 9, Siah Pei Zhen, 11, and Siah Pei Shan, 13, made a clean sweep of their respective categories at the basketball court.

Pei Xuen won the Under-9 colouring category and bagged RM300; Pei Zhen emerged the winner in the 10-12 years old colouring category to pocket RM300 as well as a consolation prize of RM100 in the poster category while Pei Shan was adjudged the winner in the 10-13 years old poster drawing category and was rewarded with RM400.

When met, Siah was delighted with her daughters’ achievements.

“They have performed tremendously well again. They participated in the drawing and colouring competitions organised by Buletin Mutiara in December last year.

“I know they will save their prize money” Siah, who stays in Relau, told Buletin Mutiara.

University student Ooi Liwen, 20, topped the poster drawing competition and won RM500 for her victory.

Sharing her joy was her father Ooi Yew Chia, who said Liwen would use the prize money for her studies.

Liwen is currently pursuing her study at AIMST University Malaysia.

Prizes were also given out to the second, third and consolation finishers.

 

During the event, there were free health checks, Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) booths selling a variety of fruits, vegetables and eggs, , a pre-Ramadan bazaar and a blood donation drive.

 

Penang FAMA director Azraie Ramli commended Buletin Mutiara for organising the event.

“There is no doubt that such an event is a good platform for engagement with the community.

“Buletin Mutiara has done remarkably well in disseminating the state government’s news to the readers in Penang,” he said.

Among those present at the prize-giving ceremony were state Communications Division director and Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow’s press secretary Yap Lee Ying, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik’s representative Ng Cheng Kok and Simpang Ampat Village Community Management Council (MPKK) chairman Tan Tiong How.
