Hawker centre in Bukit Tambun now managed by Bukit Tambun FC

THE hawker centre located next to Suria 1 Apartments in Bukit Tambun is currently being managed by Bukit Tambun FC, says Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik.

During Buletin Mutiara’s visit there today, Goh said Bukit Tambun is overseeing the entire management after taking over from Penang Development Corporation early this year.

“The hawker centre is yet to operate, but we have a total of 33 stalls, in which we welcome interested individuals to submit their proposal to my office for consideration.

“This hawker centre will be open to all when it is fully occupied by operators. We want to focus on promoting famous Malaysian foods.

“Since we are still in the pandemic circle, I would like to urge the Penang government to introduce the online delivery service here.

“This way, we can avoid dine-in, allow people in Bukit Tambun to be more involved in digitalisation while helping business operators make a living,” Goh told Buletin Mutiara at the hawker centre next to Suria 1 Apartments in Bukit Tambun today.

PDC’s monthly expenses to cover the management cost at the hawker centre was RM10,000 monthly previously, which is now being borne fully by Bukit Tambun FC.

He also added that there is a football field just behind the hawker centre, which is used by Bukit Tambun FC and Penang FC football players for training purposes.

Meanwhile, state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the state government is currently planning to improve the popularity of some of the tourist destinations in the south Seberang Perai district.

The places include Jeti Batu Musang, which is the main transit point to Pulau Aman, Pulau Payung and many others within the vicinity.

“We are planning to create a better connectivity between the islands, and hope we will be able to materialise this soon.

“I will initiate a discussion very soon with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) and the relevant agencies in the state government here on this matter,” Yeoh told Buletin Mutiara.

After visiting the hawker centre in Bukit Tambun, Yeoh and Goh, accompanied by their team members, got on a boat ride to visit the GST fish farm, which is located about five minutes (boat ride) from Jeti Batu Musang.

There, they were briefed on various fish farming methods, and how the fish were exported to other states and countries.

Yeoh said Penang has the capacity of further boosting its aqua-tourism and eco-tourism products.

“We hope for Covid-19 pandemic to be over soon so that we can plan on various activities to further enhance our tourism-related activities,” Yeoh said.
