A TOTAL of 47 hawkers and traders at the Kuantan Road Market were tested negative for Covid-19 recently, after underdoing the Rapid Test Kits (RTK-Ag) testing, state Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said.

Jagdeep, who was all praise for the business operators there after the market reopened on Oct 3, had spent RM4,500 from his constituency allocation (Datok Keramat) to cover the cost for the testing.

“I would like to congratulate the hawkers and traders for their cooperation throughout the Covid-19 testing procedures.

“Although they were all tested negative, it doesn’t mean they should take things lightly.

“In fact, they should remain vigilant and stay focused on abiding by all the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb further spread of the infections,” Jagdeep said after visiting the Kuantan Road Market this morning.

In a related development, he said so far there is only one public market that is still closed on the island, which is in Pulau Tikus.

Meanwhile, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) secretary Datuk Addnan Mohd Razali urged hawkers, traders and customers to follow the SOPs strictly to avoid closure of the market again in the future.

“When the market closes, it affects the people and business operators badly.

“It is important to not flout the SOPs. Stay safe and take care everyone,” he added.
