Hope hawkers not affected by fake news concerning case of ‘needle in banana’ , says assemblymember.

ASSEMBLYMEMBER for Batu Lanchang, Ong Ah Teong hope business of hawkers in market complexes in Fettes Park, Batu Lanchang and Jelutong will not be affected over the recent viral of fake news concerning the case of ‘needle in banana’ sold in these places.

Ong told the media this afternoon that on Oct 9, he received the video clip of the fake news on his What’s App message.

He also shared news of the local Chinese dailies which carried the ‘needle in banana’ issue.

“I feel that I need to make a police report over the case, for proper investigation to be carried out,” he commented at a press conference held in front of the North East District Police Department in Jalan Patani.

Joining Ong at the press conference were Jelutong Hawkers Association’s secretary, Chew Kok Guan, 57.

Elaborating further on the matter, Ong stresed that there is no issue of the reported ‘needle in banana’ problem in the three hawkers complexes in Fettes Park, Batu Lanchang and Jelutong.

“I lodged the report to stop the viral news from circulating and also to assist the hawkers concerned, to prevent their businesses from being affected,” he commented.
