Hotayi continues to assist needy students

HOTAYI Electronic (M) Sdn Bhd has again contributed another 75 desktops and 25 laptops, worth RM100,000 to the Penang government in support of the state’s ‘E-Learning Computer Programme’.

The company had contributed RM200,000 to the state’s Covid-19 fund, donated eight units of used laptops to the Penang government for the state’s ‘E-Learning Computer Programme’, and contributed five units of vital signs monitors to the Penang Hospital last year.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow thanked the company for its commitment to assisting the needy students during this pandemic period.

“Many students need electronic devices, such as computers or laptops, for their online studies. It is a challenge especially for the B40 families.

“That was why the Penang government initiated the ‘E-Learning Computer Programme’. We want to help the needy students so that they will not be left behind.

“This programme has benefitted some 730 needy students. A total of 97 computers have also been given free to six selected schools.

“However, I understand that there are about 200 eligible students who have yet to obtain the laptops or computers for e-learning purposes.

“We hope that more corporate firms or individuals can donate their used computers or laptops to the Penang government for this purpose,” Chow told a press conference in Komtar today.

The ‘E-Learning Computer Programme’, which was launched by the state on May 21 last year, was meant to assist needy students who do not have computers, so that they can take part in e-learning.

On a separate note, Chow said that a total of 438 students and six teachers have benefitted under the computer device loan scheme.

“Apart from computers, 224 smartphones and 60 routers were also provided to the needy families,” he said.

Also present were state Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng, Hotayi Electronic (M) Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Seri Lee Hung Lung, Hotayi Electronic (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Goh Guek Eng, ‘E-Learning Computer Programme’ task force vice-chairman Dr Ngoo Seong Boon and Swisspac Resources Sdn Bhd general manager Ryan Lim.
