PENANG is finally making strides in advancing its mega projects, including those outlined in the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) and the Penang-Perak Water Scheme project, under the current unity government’s administration.
The progress was made possible through the intervention and concerns of the Federal Government considering Penang’s robust economy and the need to address ongoing public woes on the issues of traffic congestion and water crisis.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who remains optimistic about the current status of these projects, has called for the support of the public and members from the private sector to assist the officials in materialising these projects.
“Efforts by the Penang and Federal Governments won’t be sufficient as we need feedback and constructive criticism from all parties and stakeholders to ensure these projects, at the end of the day, will benefit the community at large.
“Some projects may require input from the private sector, so, members from the industrial zones in Penang must step in and play a role too,” Chow said during the Datuk Keramat Chinese New Year open house at the Taman Free School field in George Town earlier today.
The event was graced by the presence of the Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and event host and Datuk Keramat assemblyman Jagdeep Singh Deo, who is also Penang Deputy Chief Minister II.
The dignitaries and visitors were treated to a sumptuous lunch and a string of colourful and exciting performances by professional dancers.
Earlier, Chow also lauded Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his visit on Friday (Feb 16). Anwar has pledged to expedite the Penang-Perak Water Scheme project and the much-anticipated Penang’s first Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.
According to reports published previously, Anwar is fully aware that Penang’s industrial growth has piled up pressure on the state’s infrastructure, such as roads, ports and the airport, as well as its water resources to meet the growing needs of the industries.
Among others present during the event were Chow’s wife Madam Tan Lean Kee, Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng and Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan Hooi Peng.
