THE investPenang has come up with the ‘Made in Penang: Pitching in to fight Covid-19’ series of article to highlight companies and products manufactured in the state, and they support the local and global healthcare system during the pandemic period.

The subsidiary of Penang-headquartered Texchem Resources, Texchem-Pack, was the first to be highlighted.

Texchem-Pack is a polymer engineering solutions provider, serving customers in various fields – from data storage, semiconductor, to medical life sciences, precision equipment and aerospace industries.

The increasing shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) globally has prompted Texchem-Pack to use its technical capabilities and existing resources to produce the ‘Tex-Shield’ face shields.

Tex-Shield was introduced to the market in mid-April as a non-sterile, single-use face shield that is suitable for working environments that require face protection; such as clinical applications (excluding surgical applications) and retail pharmacies.

It is learnt that the Tex-Shield is categorised as a critical essential item by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) and the company obtained its manufacturing license for this product during the movement control order (MCO) period.

In less than three weeks, Texchem-Pack managed to plan, design, produce new die sets and reconfigure existing punching machines, converting its assembly area with minimum cost and started mass production of up to 10,000 pieces of Tex-Shield per day.

Established in 1979, Texchem-Pack is accredited with AS9100D, ISO9001 and ISO14001.
