THE ASEAN Legal Alliance (ALA) is planning to hold the 9th ASEAN Legal Alliance Expo and Business Conference in Penang, in October this year.

Yeoh Mazlina and Partners managing partner Datuk Seri Matthew Yeoh, also the ASEAN Legal Alliance co-chairman, said the two-day event would include an expo open to the relevant industry players and a close-door legal and business conference.

“The expo on Oct 24 and 25 is expected to draw 1,500 to 2,000 participants per day.

“Meanwhile, speakers from the United States, Switzerland, Asia countries and Malaysia have been invited to speak at the legal and business conference on Oct 25. We expect about 300 participants,” he told Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow during a courtesy visit to his office in Komtar this morning.

Yeoh said the tentative venue is at Setia SPICE Convention Centre.

“We hope to provide more details about the event at the media conference soon,” he added.

The ALA was set up to bring together law firms from each of the 10 member states to provide an ASEAN-wide legal network. They work in close cooperation to provide legal services across the whole of ASEAN.

Chow said Penang looked forward to welcoming the delegates to the state and the event.

“Penang is a vibrant state and has recovered strongly post-Covid-19 pandemic.

“The state has been receiving good investments, but talent issues remained a challenge over the past few years,” he said.

On the state initiatives, Chow said Penang is working on improving infrastructure and public transportation.

He added that the state also strived to address matters concerning land readiness for the investors.
