PENTAMASTER Group today announced a donation of 10 automated external defibrillator (AED) units to the Penang government for deployment across the state, particularly in areas where they are most needed to serve the public.

The devices manufactured by Pentamaster’s partner, Pertiwi Medik Sdn Bhd, are called MyHeart P Series.

Representing the Penang government, state executive councillor Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, who oversees the Youth, Sports, and Health portfolio, commended the initiative and said it was a timely effort to assist the state in its push to increase the number of AEDs in Penang.

“We have encountered several cases in the past where lives were saved with the use of these devices (AEDs. So, there is no denying that AEDs play a crucial role in our people’s well-being.

“To name a few, in August last year, an 82-year-old woman was saved through an AED coupled with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) following a sudden heart attack, and similarly, in December of 2025, a male aged 25 also had his life revived with the use of an AED.

“These incidents took place in public areas, which reflects the importance of AED units being installed around us, particularly in larger community spaces,” he said during the AED handover ceremony in Komtar today.

Meanwhile, Gooi named the locations where the AED units (10x) will be installed, namely Klinik Dr Aisyah in Tasek Gelugor, Taman Eko Rimba Bukit Mertajam, Dewan Badminton TCH, Bagan Lalang, Dewan Persatuan Sukan & Kebudayaan Tiong Hua Kepala Batas, Dewan MPKK Bukit Tengah, Masjid Al Rasyidin in Nibong Tebal, Penang RTM office, Pauh Jaya Food Complex in Permatang Pauh, Taman Sentosa Food Complex in Bukit Mertajam, and Tasek Gelugor Public Market.

In a related development, Gooi provided an update on the number of AED units already installed in the state, which brings the total number to 283 units, including the 10 units donated by Pentamaster today.

These units, as mentioned earlier, can primarily be found in large community areas, including parks, public markets, residential areas, and others.

Gooi also stated that more than 32,000 community members have been trained to operate AEDs, representing approximately 1.8% of the state’s estimated 1.81 million population.

As for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) cases, Gooi said a total of 3,416 emergency calls were reported in 2025, of which 602, equivalent to 17.6% of the total cases, received CPR, leading to 12 patients being revived successfully.

“This year, based on statistics from January to March, out of 1,275 calls received, 140 cases, or 10.9%, received the support of CPR, whereby three individuals were revived,” he added.

Gooi also emphasised that while the ‘Future Heroes’ CPR-AED Training Programme was an ongoing initiative by the state Health Department, the state government is also interested in further expanding its collaboration with the state Education Department to roll out AED training for teachers and students on a wider scale.

Also present during the ceremony earlier were Pentamaster Corporation Berhad co-founder and executive chairman Datuk Chuah Choon Bin, Pertiwi Medik director Prof Datuk Haron Ahmad, Penang Heart Safe Society president Datuk Dr Luah Lean Wah, state Health Department deputy director (medical) Dr R. Premalosini, and state Health Department Family Health Development Division senior principal assistant director Dr Kang Chia Yee.
