LovePENANG – A call to action

THE Penang government has launched the LovePENANG campaign, which is a call to action, urging the people to collectively propel the state forward.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, in his fiery speech, said the time has come for the people to reclaim their lives after the challenging Covid-19 period.

“Although we must still be cautious, it is time to heal and move forward. LovePENANG is a call to action, to come together, rebuild and move forward for a brighter future.

“This community-focused campaign includes strengthening economic growth, preserving the environment, building a caring community, and others,” he said during the launching ceremony at Jen Penang Georgetown by Shangri-La today.

Chow said he does not doubt that Penang would rise to its full potential despite the challenges.

Chow calls for the people to rise stronger and be resilient.

“LovePENANG for we have much to love Penang for. The state is truly an inspirational place.

“We may be the second smallest state in terms of land mass, but we have achieved so much in attracting foreign and local investments and creating job opportunities.

“Meanwhile, George Town is recognised as a Unesco World Heritage Site for its historical core. Penang Hill was listed as a Unesco Biosphere Reserve. It is no simple feat to have both a bustling city, a heritage site, and a biodiverse habitat coexisting.

“Penang is also a melting pot of cultures, and the traditions must be preserved and treasured,” Chow mentioned.

He encouraged government departments and agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), corporates, and other establishments to take part and proudly display the LovePENANG identity when they do something worthwhile for the community or the state.

Later at a media conference, Chow said the LovePENANG campaign is a campaign to call the people to take action as the state recovers from the impact of Covid-19.

“It is to promote community spirit. There will be activities to get the people involved.

“We hope that it will not be a ‘government only’ campaign. We want the community, NGOs, and the people to hold activities and promote the LovePENANG spirit,” he said.
