THE Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) is planning to submit a proposal to the Penang government to address unregistered home-sharing services.

MAH chief executive officer Yap Lip Seng said the number of unregistered home-sharing services in Penang was ‘alarming’.

“The safety and security of tourists staying in such homes must be looked into,” he said during his courtesy visit on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in Komtar today.

Yap led a group of hoteliers to meet the Chief Minister at his office.

The delegates also discussed other matters concerning the hotel industry during the 30-minute meeting.

Home-sharing service runs on an online booking platform that allows people to rent out their properties or spare rooms to guests.

Chow welcomed the hoteliers’ initiatives to educate the public and to promote the state’s tourism.

Also present were MAH Penang chapter chairman Khoo Boo Lim, Iconic Hotel general manager Kevin Cheah and The Prestige Hotel general manager Melvin Ooi.
