JOY was written all over the face of hawker S.H. Poh when she came to thank Batu Maung assemblyman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain for helping her 12-year-old grandniece to obtain an identity card (MyKad).
Poh said she has been helping to take care of her grandniece since she was eight months old after the latter’s mother left the family.
The problem to obtain the identity card arose when the girl’s father passed away in an accident last April. She, however, has other proper documents like birth certificate and MyKid, an identity card issued to children under 12 years old.
Poh thanked Abdul Halim, who is the assemblyman in her constituency, Abdul Halim’s personal assistant T.H. Ding, the Penang Citizenship Department and the Sepuluh Kongsi MPKK, headed by Lim Ah Kauw, for their assistance in the matter.
Abdul Halim, who is also the Trade and Industry, and Entrepreneurial Development Committee chairman, said with the identity card, the girl now does not have to face problems relating to education and other issues.
