IN an effort to promote awareness of ‘No To Single-Use Plastic’ campaign, three Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillors have stepped forward to donate recyclable bags and lunch boxes to the Penang Chinese Girls Primary School in Jalan Gottlieb today.

MBPP councillor Connie Tan Hooi Peng, who is also among the contributors, said they have donated 100 recyclable bags and 300 lunch boxes to the school.

“My colleagues, Quah Boon Lim and Lee Wei Seang, and I use our own allocation as councillors to make the contribution.

“We believe this move will instil more awareness among the students to encourage them to do away with single-use plastic bags.

“This is also in line with the Penang government’s efforts to encourage eco-friendly products to substitute single-use plastics,” said Tan during the handing-over ceremony of the items at the City Hall in Esplanade today.

Penang Chinese Girls Primary School was represented by its headmistress Yeat Kooi Ean and the school’s Teachers Association (PIBG) chairman Ho See Lin.
