THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has installed 114 hand sanitisers at several government buildings and council premises to minimise the risk of the 2019 novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak.

MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the hand sanitisers were placed in toilets, meeting rooms, payment counters and canteens.

“These places are mostly the public focal points; hence, it is very important for us to take the proper precautions,” he told a press conference after chairing the MBSP’s first full council meeting this year at the MBSP building in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.

Rozali said the council was also providing free face masks to its staff.

“We hope to reduce the risk of the 2019-nCoV infection through these efforts,” he said.

He said that the council had put up posters on the preventive measures for the 2019-nCoV infection at several strategic locations.

“I would like to remind the public to only get information with regard to the 2019-nCoV from verified sources such as from the Health Ministry and trusted mainstream media,” he added.

On a separate note, Rozali announced the upcoming ‘Luna Light Wonderland 2020’ event which would be held at the Upcycle Park in Bandar Perda.

“The event is jointly organised by MBSP and Red Bear Global in conjunction with the Experience Penang Year 2020 (EPY2020) campaign. The event will be held from Feb 7 to Feb 23.

“About 680,000 LED lights will be used during the event.

“The event will feature various designs such as the ‘Tree of Light’, Mount Fuji in Japan, ‘Star Tunnel’, ‘Moon Crescent’, ‘Monkey Mascot’ and many more using LED lights.

“Bring your friends and family to the event,” he said.

The entrance fee is RM8 for adults and RM4 for children.
