THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has identified three buildings for the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) system through the supply agreement renewable energy (SARE).

MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the three buildings are Bertam Sports Complex, Jalan Betek Sports Complex and MBSP office in Jalan Betek.

MBSP is the first local council in the country to ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and GSPARX for the renewable energy programme with the purpose of carbon reduction through the use of solar energy.

The MoU was inked among the three parties on May 17 last year.

MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said he was pleased that the city council was chosen out of the 145 local authorities in the country for the programme.

“The installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) system helps MBSP to sell the surplus of solar energy to TNB and get energy credit in return,” said Rozali attending the launching ceremony for the installation solar PV system.

“MBSP does not need to incur any preliminary costs for the installation of building solar systems in selected buildings.

“The solar energy generated will replace the conventional energy where MBSP can enjoy bill savings through lower tariff throughout the agreement period.

“Through this concept, consumers can enjoy lower electricity bill payment rates where the rates offered are low and fixed throughout the contract period.”

State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, who was present, praised MBSP for its good job.

He was proud that MBSP was chosen as the local council to undertake the solar PV system.

“I would like to thank TNB for this initiative as this agreement would not materialise without them. They have played a major role in this MoU,” he added.
