MBSP team heads to Johor to help flood victims

AFTER sending out the disaster relief squad from the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) last week, the Penang government sent another mission team from the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) today to assist with the flood situation in Johor.

 

MBSP mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad said the flood relief mission team will focus on assisting the flood victims in the Yong Peng district.

He said the MBSP disaster relief squad will be in Johor until March 19.

 

“The city council has mobilised one fire truck, a grabber crane, a tail lift truck, two ro-ro (roll-on, roll-off) trucks, a van and a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle together with 21 team members for this mission.

 

“MBSP also brings its own chainsaws and waterjets to be used during the cleaning work in the affected areas.

 

“We understand the difficulties that the flood victims as well as the government agencies are going through, so we are sending some personnel there to help.

 

“Should there be any need for more assistance, we will surely provide what we can.

 

“I am sure that this mission team will do their best to assist the flood victims there,” Azhar said during a symbolic flagging-off ceremony held at the MBSP headquarters building in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.

 

Also present was state Welfare and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh.

Phee also advised the MBSP team members to take care of their safety as well while on the mission.
