THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) will continue in its effort to reduce the crow population through another series of crow-shooting programmes on the mainland.

MBSP mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad said the third series of the city council’s ‘Operation Crow Sharpshooter (Ops Cross)’, will be held at various hotspots in Seberang Perai on June 17, July 15 and Aug 19.

Azhar said the third series of the city council’s ‘Operation Crow Sharpshooter (Ops Cross)’, will be held at various hotspots in Seberang Perai on June 17, July 15 and Aug 19.

He said, previously, series one and two were organised on Feb 4 and May 6 respectively at various hotspots in Seberang Perai.

“In total, the special operations left behind 4,054 dead crows. They were from the two editions which involved 15 selected shooters.

“And for this third series, the operation will involve a total of 78 selected shooters so that we can hunt down more crows.

“Hopefully, this initiative can reduce the population of crows in Seberang Perai that have caused enough trouble to the residents.

“We decided to organise such a programme following public complaints that there are too many crows on the mainland that affect cleanliness.

“We would like to urge the Seberang Perai residents to stop littering and dumping food. Such acts can attract crows,” Azhar said in his speech after chairing a full council meeting at the MBSP headquarters building in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.

On a separate matter, Azhar announced that the Penang government has recently approved a special guideline for independent homestay operators.

“The special guideline was approved on March 15 this year and has been enforced since April 1.

“It is an initiative provided by the state government to help independent homestay operators in Penang obtain valid licences and operate legally.

“They can start to apply for a valid licence by filling out an application form that can be downloaded from the MBSP website at https://www.mbsp.gov.my/ starting from May 25.

“The form can then be submitted to the MBSP from June 1 onwards to be processed and considered for approval.

“For further details and inquiries, contact MBSP’s Licensing Department at 04-5497685 or email it to [email protected],” he said.
