THE inaugural Beyond Contemporary Art Penang (BCAP) is set to be an exciting large-scale art platform in the Asia Pacific with the participation of international delegates and experts from various countries.

BCAP will be held at St Giles The Wembley Hotel in George Town from Nov 9 until 12.

The four-day mega art event is unique as it will feature four distinct art programmes namely the International Art Summit, Art Expo, Art Auction, and Art Award Gala Dinner, all under one roof.

BCAP is the brainchild of Datuk Ch’ng Huck Theng, who is the founder and president of BCAP. He is also the chairman of the Association of Tourism Attractions Penang (ATAP).

The event, which is fully supported by the Penang government through the state Tourism and Creative Economy (Petace) office, will also feature artistic contributions from no less than 17 countries and a diverse array of over 400 captivating works of art.

Ch’ng said an art event of this scale has not been held locally before.

“We will see the integration of four major pillars namely business, art, tourism, and education on this platform.

“This is a global economy initiative intended to enhance the value of art and establish a new sustainable ecosystem for both art and business,” he told a press conference when announcing the event at St Giles The Wembley Hotel in George Town on Oct 28.

Also present was state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai.

Meanwhile, Wong took pride in observing Penang’s pioneering role in this distinctive, cross-industry endeavour to foster tourism, art, commerce, and education.

“BCAP is Asia Pacific’s largest integrated art platform, and the convergence of art, business, education and tourism represents a promising trend for the future,” he said.
