AN unoccupied hawker complex for over a decade near to Taman Kristal in Mount Erskine is expected to see a makeover soon.

Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee Chun Kit said the old premises with a size of 4,020sq ft and houses 47 stalls would be transformed into a better place in future.

He said it has been a waste of Penang Island City Council (MBPP) property which has been left vacant for more than 10 years.

Hence, he added that it would be for the betterment for the community if the complex could be turned into a beneficial place.

He, however, said nothing has been finalised yet as engagement process was undergoing to seek feedback from residents in the neighbourhood.

“We are now in the midst of collecting their views before making any decision.

“By next week, a discussion will be held with residents in Taman Kristal following which a discussion will be held with the council.

“We hope to find a solution that will benefit the residents for the long term,” he said at a press conference in Mount Erskine today.

A public engagement session was held at the Balai Rakyat in the neighbourhood today

It was an initiative undertaken by Penang Women Development Corporation (PWDC), MBPP, Pulau Tikus service centre and Pantai Molek’s Village Community Management Council (MPKK) to seek the people’s responses.

Also present was PWDC chief executive officer Ong Bee Leng.
