CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow has reiterated the various actions taken to mitigate the water disruptions scheduled for tomorrow until Jan 14.

“The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) has received constructive criticism, and actions have been taken.

“Originally announced with over 50 water tanks, the current count now surpasses 100 water tanks in total. These measures, which include the increase in the number of water tanks, water tankers, static water tanks and others, reflect the dedicated efforts of PBAPP and elected representatives to alleviate the impact of water disruptions on the community.

“I am confident that ample criticism has been provided to PBAPP, and necessary actions have been initiated. Let us now shift our focus towards addressing the ongoing situation,” he responded to a journalist regarding the petition signed by 19 petitioners, comprising Penang MPs and assemblymen, and addressed to Chow and his executive council members recently.

Chow believed that the petition was aimed at requesting more water tanks to be sent to the impacted areas.

“The petitioners did not oppose the operation. We are determined to make this operation a success,” Chow explained the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP) shutdown to replace two leaking 1,200mm control valves.

The petition urged PBAPP to, among others, ensure an ample supply of 1,000 to 2,000-litre water tanks and tankers during the water supply disruptions, and to explore alternatives to mitigate the adverse impacts on both households and businesses.
