VILLAGE Community Management Councils (MPKKs) in the state must continue to play active roles and connect with the community, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

According to Chow, it is crucial for MPKKs to go to the ground frequently to ensure that government policies and programmes are carried out effectively.

“I would also like to see MPKKs working together with various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the state to organise useful programmes for the people. Be the bridge between the government and the public.

Chow said it is crucial for MPKKs to go to the ground frequently to ensure that government policies and programmes are carried out effectively.

“MPKKs have a heavy responsibility to disseminate accurate information from the government to the people and vice-versa.

“MPKKs need to enlighten the public on why certain policies and programmes have been implemented to enable the people to have a better understanding,” Chow said in his speech during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Taman Manggis People’s Housing Project (PPR) today.

The open house was jointly organised by the Jalan Transfer/Jalan Argyll MPKK and Masjid Jamek Al-Marjan.

Also present were Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying, who is also the Tanjong MP, state Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, Jalan Transfer/Jalan Argyll MPKK chairman Mak Tong Lee, Masjid Jamek Al-Marjan chairman Osman Mydin and Chow’s wife Tan Lean Kee.

Speaking about the open house programme, Chow said it is good to see various open house programmes being held nowadays after a hiatus for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“These programmes can be a platform to promote friendship and foster close relationships in the community.

“I would like to thank Jalan Transfer/Jalan Argyll MPKK and Masjid Jamek Al-Marjan for jointly organising this meaningful programme,” he said.
