New platform to develop musicians

THE Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) has initiated a platform to assist musicians in Penang.

The Youth in Music (YIM), a platform under Youth with Rhythm, aims at collecting and publishing profiles of musicians to allow them to shine in their respective areas of expertise.

Youth with Rhythm, an initiative jointly collaborated by PYDC and Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd, is dedicated to bring progress to the local music industry.

YIM is featured under the Youth for Future’s official website.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee has encouraged all youths with musical talents in Penang to join the programme and be featured on the website.

“This will be a one-stop platform for young music practitioners to be discovered, and to be connected with each other.

“The platform can help to generate potential collaborations, aiding musicians to grow.

“Besides that, a series of relevant programmes such as workshops, concerts, competitions and talks will be organised to benefit the YIM community and the public.

“I believe that the launching of this music platform is timely, and it will be a boost in developing our youths for the future.

“This platform is created to develop creative talents and it is in line with PYDC’s mission, which is to develop the youths holistically,” Soon said during the launching of the Youth in Music platform in Komtar on Jan 25.

Any individual or groups with members aged 15 to 40 with musical talents are welcome to apply to be on the platform.

The applications will be reviewed by YIM panel board members, all of which are experienced music professionals.

They are Penang House of Music director Paul Augustin, singer Kamal Chopra, Sound Maker Studio co-founder Cole Yew Kok Cheong and singer Vivian Lau Xiau Yin.
