THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has issued a stern warning to all unlicensed farmers on the mainland that they will have to pay a hefty price for operating without proper licences.

Its mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad said this during MBSP’s council meeting in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam on Feb 22.

He said it was important for farmers of any kind to comply with the regulations based on the local council’s Licence Payment By-Law 1980.

“Stern action will be taken against those (unlicensed farmers) found to be operating without licences issued by MBSP.

“For instance, a farmer, charged with operating without a licence, faced an arrest warrant after failing to appear in court on Jan 22.

“The Magistrate Court then issued a RM1,500 fine after the accused pleaded guilty,” Azhar said in his speech.

He urged residents in Seberang Perai to not take the rules and regulations set by the authorities lightly, especially those farmers operating without licences.
